Brazilian citation scheme outed


"Mauricio Rocha-e-Silva thought that he had spotted an easy way to raise the profiles of Brazilian journals. From 2009, he and several other editors published articles containing hundreds of references to papers in each others’ journals — in order, he says, to elevate the journals’ impact factors."

I think in this scheme there are two problem: the "Jeitinho Brasileiro"* and CAPES policy.



* "The word jeitinho (pronounced zhay-cheen-yo) is a commonly used expression in Portuguese that describes the Brazilian knack for finding a way over an obstacle, around a problem, or out of a jam. " ...

"Brazilians use the jeitinho to get what they want, ..."
